Both Sportspower Busselton City Ladies teams continued to dominate the local soccer scene with two comprehensive wins last Sunday.
The Ladies Premier team recorded a commanding 7-0 win over Margaret River and in doing so maintained their unbeaten record. Margaret River were young, skilful and willing but they lacked City’s experience, size and power. With the Longmore sisters and Keeley Milner dictating the tempo of the game, Busselton constantly challenged an over- worked opposition defence. This allowed the locals to get forward at every opportunity with Ariana Longmore notching a hat-trick. Other goal-scorers included Kayla Wright, Siobhan Longmore, Claudia Duane and Chenaye Wright. Not even an injury to goalkeeper Nicole Roque could disrupt proceedings with defenders Hannah Armstrong and Eliza Sheehan quickly closing down Margaret River in the back third.
The Ladies Reserves, who are second on the ladder, quickly asserted their authority against Collie in their 9-0 victory. With some high-quality distribution from the promising Kara Haynes, Busselton created numerous scoring chances throughout the 90 minutes. Sharon Cowley grabbed an opportunistic goal in the first minute before finding the back of the net again shortly afterwards. The productive Chelsea Braam showed her finishing ability with four goals with Mollie Hawkins, Emily Killick and an own goal completing the scoring.
In a hard fought encounter CMI Busselton City Premier Men’s team shared the points with Margaret River in their 1-1 draw. The influential Craig Barker gave Busselton the lead from the penalty spot early in the second spell. However, a long-range free kick quickly got Margaret River back on even terms. Both sides had scoring opportunities late in the game with Pat Sheehan and John Nguyen coming close for City.
The Men’s Reserves continued their good form of late with a 1-0 win over Collie. Busselton scored through a well struck free kick from teenage striker Harry Moon midway through the first half. The positional play of goalkeeper Romain Trouvé and some uncompromising defending by Lachlan MacLeod and Conor Poleykett ensured City got the three valuable points.
