Match Report - Juniors 11th May 2019

Saturday brought another perfect day for soccer. This week's game of the day featured our 14s team, the Raptors.

Sunny, warm weather saw a big crowd for the Busselton Raptors v Cornerstone Warriors at Barnard, a game played with great spirit and sportsmanship. Both teams started with a great deal of enthusiasm and the play went back and forwards, with no side being able to consolidate, despite many shots at goal.

Cornerstone scored first after a one on one battle with the goalie and with their confidence growing, continued to attack. The Raptors then settled into the game and had successive attempts at goal, with Jed landing a great kick into the back of the net.

Cornerstone took the ball quickly down the other end and Busselton’s goalie, Ryan, made a steady save before sending the ball into attack. A shot by Wouther hit the crossbar, bounced out and was cleverly deflected in for a goal by Kody.

Great teamwork from Eve to Lucas resulted in another quick score and Busselton were in control of the play. Fantastic team play resulted in a high kick from Dylan that floated over the keeper’s head for a clever goal. Busselton defended hard until half time and despite some excellent keeping from the Cornerstone Goalie, went into the break with a 4-1 lead.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Cornerstone work hard and many of Busselton’s forward thrusts were thwarted with good defence. The Raptors had many attempts at goal, all saved by the keeper and the forward pushes by Cornerstone were sent straight back to the forward line by some excellent defence. After a few attempts, a brilliant kick sailed past the goalie for Cornerstone’s second goal.

Busselton replied with a quick goal to Dylan who followed up soon after with his third of the day. A few more attempts from both teams were unsuccessful as the players tired in the heat. As the final siren sounded Busselton were victors 6 -2 and left the field with wide smiles and feeling very proud of their efforts, as they should after some excellent and unselfish football was played by all.

Great work and well done to coach Brett Moon, excellent umpiring Harry Moon and thanks for running the line Ari.
