Match Report - Seniors 11th August 2019

The benefits of CMI Busselton City’s youth policy were clearly evident in their upset 2-1 win over Dunsborough on Sunday. Teenage wingers Will Jackson and Beau Haynes frequently got in behind the Dunsborough back four whilst midfielder Callum Bull and left back Justin McClurg were unruffled throughout the ninety minutes. Busselton’s Alan Dowling showed his finishing skills midway through the first half before Jackson and Haynes combined for the latter to score again after 46 minutes. A goal to Dunsborough reduced the arrears in the second spell, though Busselton then went close to adding a third goal with the directness of Luke Wright proving to be particularly threatening.

Busselton reserves dominated initial proceedings in their 4-1 loss to Dunsborough. With Ben Hughes and Patrick Tarrant providing plenty of width in attack it was no surprise that Busselton scored after 20 minutes through a Kei Ichikawa header. However the experience of Dunsborough proved to be the difference with three goals in the last half hour. Keeper Conor Poleykett along with defenders Jaxon Rynvis and Cameron Goldsmith were amongst the best for Busselton.

Triple M Busselton City ladies recorded a merited 3-1 win over a youthful Margaret River outfit. City’s player-coach Therese Charlton put her side 1-0 up shortly after the start with the opposition drawing level just after the half time break. Dangerous striker Ariana Dawson quickly restored Busselton’s lead before Charlton grabbed her second goal late in the game. The ability of defenders Hannah Armstrong, Sami Ryan and Alex Miller to play out from the back was a key ingredient in this win.

The Woody Nook Busselton City Masters team were on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line in their derby match with Geographe Bay. City started the stronger but both sides were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. Busselton’s Martin Ryan opened the scoring early in the second spell before Geographe equalised from a free kick and then sealed the win with a late penalty.
