Match Report - Seniors 19th May 2019

A last minute winner by Hay Park United’s Rory Binnie proved to be a hard pill to swallow for CMI Busselton City in their 3-2 defeat last Sunday. Hay Park looked the sharper side in the early passages of play and held a 2-0 lead after just 25 minutes. However youthful striker Patrick Sheehan reduced the arrears with a well- placed shot just before the break. In the second half Busselton increased the tempo and were rewarded when winger Will Jackson evened the scores. They then created a number of scoring opportunities but were unable to find the back of the net before Binnie gave his side the victory.

A nondescript first 15 minutes proved to be detrimental to Busselton City reserves in their 2-1 loss to Hay Park United. After finding themselves having to chase the game this young side showed considerable resolve and were finally rewarded with a well struck shot by the promising Scott Miller. However despite the whole hearted efforts of keeper Jesse Gunnis and defenders Jaxon Rynvis and Luke Tompsett, Busselton were unable to prevent their first loss of the season.

Despite a sluggish start Busselton City Triple M ladies side recorded a 2-0 win over Margaret River. Busselton scored their first goal just before the half time break when Allyson Armstrong superbly slotted a shot past he keeper from the edge of the box. Playing with greater composure in the second spell Busselton’s Kayla Wright & Tenille Pavlinovich constantly created chances down the left wing. In fact it was a fine solo run by Wright deep into the opposition penalty area that set up Therese Charlton for the locals second goal.

The Woody Nook Masters team played their best soccer of the season before going down 1-0 to Geographe Bay in a Mike Coley Cup fixture. After conceding a sloppy goal against the run of play, Busselton settled down and with some better finishing should have claimed a well - deserved victory. Busselton’s frustrations were summed up when claims for a penalty went unheeded close to the full time whistle.

This Sunday Busselton City clash with neighbours Dunsborough away whilst the ladies and masters travel to Dynamos and Margaret River respectively.
