Premier Ladies continue to dominate!

By Steve Gibson

Sportspower Busselton City Premier ladies team continued to dominate the South West Soccer Association competition after recording a resounding 15-1 win over Football Margaret River on Saturday. Coach Rob Gibbons was disappointed with hisside's first-half performance despite leading 4-0 at halftime. The second half saw Busselton demolish the home team with a much-improved second spell with Chenaye Wright, Asha McClurg, Siobhan Longmore and Ariana Dawson scoring a dozen goals between them. Other goal scorers included Eliza Sheehan, Keeley Milner and Claudia Duane.

In a top of the table ladies Reserves clash, Busselton made the long trip to Balingup to play undefeated Blackwood. Therese Charlton got her side off to a good start with a well-finished goal. But then a penalty awarded to Blackwood changed the match dramatically and they raced away to a 5-1 lead. Chelsea Braam then grabbed a late consolation goal as Busselton suffered their first loss of the season.

Despite dominating possession during the second half CMI Busselton City Premier men’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders, Dunsborough Towners. Busselton had some key players unavailable for this match, but they were prepared to battle away and came agonizingly close to scoring through the efforts of Justin McClurg, David McGuiness and Pat Sheehan.

Conceding a couple of soft goals proved costly for the men’s Reserves team who lost 4-0 in their encounter with Dunsborough. Midfielders Ben Fish and Alan Dowling toiled throughout the 90 minutes as did youngster Lochie Nuttarelli-Hall in defence. Whilst they created scoring opportunities Busselton were guilty of times of not providing enough support from behind the ball.

The Woody Nook Division 2 side suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to a more mobile Dynamos outfit. The consistent Sam Njenga got Busselton back on level terms just prior to halftime. But in the second half the locals lost their shape and Dynamos were able to grab the ascendency. With Dave Wright, Ali Taylor and Jason Foord leading the way, this team will be looking to upset the unbeaten Margaret River side on Sunday.
